Authentication

Profit supports application authentication and Windows authentication. You can set the desired method.

Windows authentication offers better protection than application authentication.

• Application authentication

  User names and passwords are recorded in Profit.

  In a stand-alone installation of Profit, you use application authentication.

• Windows authentication

  You use Windows user names in Profit. You don't records passwords in Profit. Once a user is logged on to Windows, he hass access to Profit without supplying a password.

  In a network installation of Profit, you always use Windows authentication on the server.

If you use Windows authentication, a user who tries to log in only sees the environment he has access to. If you use application authentication, the user sees all environments, including environments he cannot log on to.

Procedure

• Manually set the authentication method

  Windows authentication is automatically set during a server installation. Application authentication is standard for stand-alone installations. However, you can change the authentication method manually.

• Record Windows authentication for multiple domains

  For Windows authentication the Windows user name and the domain name are checked. You can still allow the users to log on to Profit from several Windows domains using Windows authentication.
