Add a question
You add questions and can link them to a question category. For each question you specify how the respondents can answer it. For a choice or multiple-choice question you can use a selection group.
Below are some guidelines that can help you formulate your questions as concrete as possible:
- The question measures the right thing: the answer is exactly what you want to know.
- The question is one single question and does not consist of two questions.
- The question can be explained in one way only.
- The question can be understood by the respondent, for example as far as the language and vocabulary used is concerned.
- The question does not contain a negation.
- The question has to be as concrete as possible.
- The question should be as neutral as possible and should, for example, not suggest answers.
Between questions, a dependency relation can exist. In that case the respondent can only answer a question if he has given a specific answer to another question. You record the dependency relations in the survey models that include the relevant questions, not in the properties of the questions themselves.
Example:
A survey includes the question 'Do you use a laptop?', with Yes and No as answers. Only if the respondent answers Yes, the respondent has to answer the question 'What is the brand of your laptop?'. If a respondent answers No, the question 'What is the brand of your laptop?' is visible, but the respondent cannot enter an answer.

- Calculation
For a calculation question, after the survey is completed Profit calculates a value based on a number of other questions. Profit can determine the average, the average deviation of the the average, the sum, the highest value and the lowest value.
- Single choice
The respondent has to select one choice from a selection group. You must also use a selection group for a Yes/No question.
- Multiple choice
The respondent can select multiple answers from a selection group.
In the way you formulate the question, make sure to mention that the respondent can select multiple answers.
- Numeric value
the respondent can enter a number (for example, an age). You can limit the allowed values using the Minimum and Maximum fields. This prevents errors and increases the unambiguity of the answers.
- Free text
The respondent can enter any text. This option can be used, for example to ask the respondent for his opinion or to give suggestions.
- Calculation
- Select the Mandatory check box if the respondent must answer the question. Otherwise the respondent will not be able to complete the survey. If the question is not mandatory, you can record a score for answering the question and for not answering it.
The remaining fields are used for calculation questions.
