Discounts (Sales)

You can record discounts on your prices in Profit.

Description

A discount is an amount or percentage that is automatically deducted from the sales price.

Based on the level at which you record a discount, Profit determines the discount that applies when you enter a (basic) order, quotation, packing slip or invoice.

The higher the level at which the discount has been recorded, the more important the discount is. Thus, a discount at a higher level always takes precedence over a discount that has been recorded at a lower level.

The levels can roughly be classified as:

  • Highest: Discount for sales contact
  • Medium: Discount group
  • Lowest: Basic discount

Different types of prices are used for sales and purchasing. Purchasing and sales work in almost the same way which is why we only deal with sales.

Below you can see the structure used to determine the correct discount:

Extra hierarchy within the levels

Within the above discounts level structure, the following sequence also applies: the highest level is a discount for the article, then a discount for the article group and then, as the lowest level, a discount for the price group. This looks as follows:

It means, thus, that a discount for an article group always has precedence over a discount on a price group if they are both recorded at the same level. A discount on an article or item always has precedence over discount on an article group if they are recorded at the same level. You might use this, for example, if you are selling clothing or posters. For an article group, for instance t-shirts, you give one discount and then apply another one per article if you want to.

Sales contact promotional discount

You can add both promotional discounts and discounts in the properties of a sales contact. Promotional discounts are discounts that are added for a specific period of time. Thus, you add these promotional discounts together with a start and end date. The sales contact promotional discount is added at the highest level. This means that if there is a valid sales contact promotional discount present then this is applied.

Sales contact discount

You can add both discounts and promotional discounts in the properties of a sales contact. The discounts you add here are discounts you have agreed with the sales contact. The sales contact discount is added at the second level. If there is no valid sales contact promotional discount present then the valid sales contact discount is applied.

Discount group promotional discount

You can add both promotional discounts and discounts in a discount group. Promotional discounts are discounts that are added for a specific period of time. Thus, you add these promotional discounts together with a start and end date. The promotional discounts in a discount group apply only to sales contacts that are linked to the discount group. The discount group promotional discount is added at the third level. If there are no valid discounts present at a higher level, then the valid discount group promotional discount is used.

Promotional discount

A promotional discount is a general promotional discount. Thus, you do not add them to a specific sales contact or a group of sales contacts (discount group) since they apply to all sales contacts. The Promotional discount is added at the fourth level. If no valid discounts are present at a higher level, the valid Promotional discount is used.

Discount group discount

You can add both discounts and promotional discounts in a discount group. The discounts in a discount group apply only to sales contacts that are linked to the discount group. The discount group discount is added at the fifth level. If there are no valid discounts present at a higher level then the valid discount group discount is used.

Basic discount

The basic discount is added as a basic discount for your items, article groups or price groups. If no valid discounts are present at a higher level, the Basic discount is used. If no basic discount has been added then no discount is applied. You can always enter a discount yourself when adding a (basic) order, quotation, packing slip or invoice.

Combination of prices and discounts

First of all, the valid price is retrieved in accordance with the above scheme after which Profit checks whether a discount is allowed for this price. If a discount is allowed then the applicable discount is retrieved in accordance with above scheme. If no discount is allowed for the price charged then no discount is retrieved, even if there is a discount available.

Import and export

You can import both purchase and sales discounts into Profit. You can also import them on the basis of the article code used by the purchase or sales contact if you have configured the item codes of the purchase/sales contact and linked them to your own item codes.

With the various display screens and view functions that Profit offers, it is easy to export the prices and price lists to MS Excel.

Recurring prices and discounts

It often happens that a discount recurs regularly. For example, it may be the case that a certain loaf of bread is on offer at a supermarket every Monday. In Profit Logistics, it is very easy to copy promotional prices and discounts.

Preparation

  • Configuration

To ensure that the use of prices and discounts happens correctly, you can specify a number of settings.

  • Discount agreement

You can add discount agreements at sales contact level. You can add discounts and promotional discounts to a sales contact.

  • Combined discount

In Profit, you can calculate discounts and allowances over the complete invoice or over a part of it. For example, you calculate a surcharge if the total invoice amount is less than a certain amount.

  • Volume discount

With volume discounts, the discount on the sales price depends on the quantity sold. You can record the ladder as an amount or as a discount percentage of the original price.

  • Line and invoice discount

In each line of the entry layout, you can manually change the article discount; this is what we call the Line discount. Apart from the line discount, you can also give a discount on the entire invoice; we call this the Invoice discount.
