Allocate servers and optimise tasks for the Profit Batch Service (local installation only)

In the CLE (Central Login Environment) you can inspect the properties of the servers that are logged on for processing tasks via the Profit Batch Service.

You can see whether the servers are logged on and whether or not they are active. Servers are automatically displayed as soon as you have installed Profit on a server.

If you have activated the Profit Batch Service in a certain environment, each batch task that is started in that environment is executed from the Profit Batch Service. The batch service is automatically configured for that environment. This means you can be sure that tasks of all types and from all environments can be started by at least one service. An automatically configured batch service starts all tasks that are not executed by any other service.

Should there be any performance problems, you can change the configuration manually. You can then adjust the following settings:

• The maximum number of tasks that the service may start simultaneously
• The environments for which the service is allowed to execute tasks
• The task types that the service may run

To configure the batch service manually:

1. Log on to the Central Login Environment.
2. Go to: General / Environment / Central environment / Batch service.

   Now you see an overview with the logged on servers.

3. Open the batch service.
4. Enter the maximum number of simultaneous tasks in the Maximum number of tasks field.
5. Select the Automatically configure service check box. Only with multiple batch servers, it can be useful to deselect this setting; see the procedure below.
6. Click on: OK. 

To configure environments and task types manually for multiple batch servers:

Determine per batch server the environments for which it will be used and which tasks will be performed.

1. Open the batch service.
2. Deselect the Automatically configure service check box.
3. Click on: OK.
4. Open the batch service again.
5. Manually set the environments for which this batch server is allowed to execute tasks. Ensure that each environment has been set for at least one batch service.
   1. Go to the tab: Environments.
   2. Click on: New. 
   3. Select the environment(s).
   4. Click on: Finish. 
6. Manually set the task types that this batch server service may execute:
   1. Go to the tab: Task types.
   2. Click on: New. 
   3. Select the task types that this batch server service is allowed to execute. There is a difference between normal tasks and fast tasks (with a number higher than 1,000). You must ensure that all tasks for all environments are handled by a batch server.

      When Profit has to perform a task, Profit first considers the extent of the task. A small task is designated as a fast task, while other tasks are normal tasks. Fast tasks take precedence. It may happen that a task is designated originally as a fast task (because the task has a small extent), while on a subsequent occasion it is designated as a normal task.

   4. Click on: Finish. 
7. Click on: OK. 
8. Stop the Batch Service and start it again to implement the changes.
