Configure the queue (local installation only)

If you have a local installation of Profit, you need to configure this component.

Description

The rest of this description only applies if you have a local Profit installation.

It is advisable to use the queue, because this has a positive influence on the application servers and on the organisation's productivity. The queue automatically distributes the tasks to be performed across the available application servers. This not only saves time, but it also improves the performance of your servers. The productivity in the organisation improves because the tasks are performed in the background, and your employees can continue to work normally in Profit.

In Profit we always use the concept 'queue'. However in a local installation, you will also be dealing with an extra software component, namely the Profit Batch Service. The Profit Batch Service is installed automatically with the Profit server installation. You still need to launch the Batch Service manually on each application server, for example from Windows Computer Management.

You determine per environment through an activation whether or not you will make use of the Batch Service. If so, then certain predefined tasks are automatically placed in the queue (you cannot specify this per task).

Note:

If you wish to generate report sets using the Batch Service, you must do this on a server to which a physical printer is connected.
