Make a field changeable/non-changeable

You can make sure that the input in certain fields is always correct by setting preferred values in combination with the Changeable setting.

Example:

You work in the Office staff department. You must always select your own department in the Feature field for a dossier item of the Department type. In the field, set 'Office staff ' as the preferred value and deselect the Changeable check box. This ensures that the field is always correct. Also, the field cannot be completed incorrectly by accident.

The preferred value applies in New wizards and in Properties windows.

To set a field as changeable/non-changeable:

  1. Go to the field that you want to set.
  2. Right-click on the field name.

This opens a window with two tabs. The Administrator settings tab that is only available if you are logged on as administrator in Profit or if you are authorised for this, and the User settings tab that is available to everyone.

  3. If you want to set a field only for personal use, go to the User settings tab. If you are authorised as administrator, and you want to specify settings for the field that apply to all users, the Administrator settings tab is also available and you go there.
  4. Set a preferred value.
  5. Deselect the Changeable check box if you do not want to allow changes to the field.
  6. Click on: OK
  7. Restart to apply the settings.
  8. Check if the field displays the correct setting by starting the New wizard in the relevant function.
