Counter with a continuous range
If you want to make use of a ‘perpetual’ continuous range you must add a counter with a continuous range. This range is not time-dependent and you therefore do not enter an end-date. Profit always uses the next number in a range for this counter and you only need the counter just once.
To add a counter with a continuous range:
- Go to: General / Configuration / Numbering settings / Counters.
- Click on: New.
- Select the counter type from Counter set.
- Enter the description of the counter.
- Enter the total number of positions that must be used for the range in Total length.
The maximum length for the range is 12 positions. This includes the leader.
- Enter the leader if you want to use it.
The leader is always the same; the rest of the number is incremented each time.
Example:
You use the leader INK for purchase invoices, which will create the following range: INK00001, INK00002, INK00003, etc.
If you have multiple administrations, you can use the administration's abbreviation as the leader. You can also use an ‘administration tag’. For instance [AAAA], [AAA], [AA] or [A]. This provides the administration’s sequence number (maximum 4 positions) as the leader for the counter. Take note that you must create a counter for each administration when there are multiple administrations.
- In Start value, enter the first number of the number range you want to use.
The number can be up to 9 digits long in the above example. Profit automatically pads the numbering with zeros if necessary, depending on the total length of the range.
Example:
If you enter 1 as the start value of the range, INK as leader and 8 as the total length, then the number will be INK00001. The number is therefore padded with four zeros. If you do not use a leader, then the number will be padded with seven zeros: 00000001.
- Check the example shown as the start value of the range.
- Only enter the End value if you want the range to stop when this end value is reached.
- Enter Range start date.
- Do not enter the Range end date .
The end date is left blank for a counter with a continuous range. This is because this counter is date-independent.
- Do not select the Automatically add new range after end date check box.
- Click on: Finish.
- Link this counter to the right journal.
