Edit a page, save a draft and publish it

When a site administrator changes a page of the site, the following happens:

A draft of the page is created. The original (unedited) page is still visible to users. The draft is a copy of the original page which the site administrator can change. Once the site administrator is satisfied with the changed page, he can publish it: the draft page goes live on the website and replaces the original page. The publishing process can take a couple of minutes, after which the new page is live on the site.

Publishing a page is completed by the Update Service.

To edit a page:

In this example you change the Werving en selectie page. You publish the page and check the result.

  1. Log on and start Site management.
  2. Open the page.
  3. You see the current status of the page.

  4. Click on: Edit (in the Page frame).

The page becomes a draft (copy of the published page). The published page remains accessible for users; you are going to edit the draft.

  5. Make your changes.
  6. You now have two options:
    • Click on Save draft to save any changes made so far. If you leave the page by selecting Exit edit, it remains as a draft page.
    • Click on Publish to take the page live. The draft page becomes the new live page. Publishing the page can take a few minutes.

To check the status of the site:

Publishing a draft page can take a couple of minutes. That is because Profit first checks if the site needs to be updated, then collects the data and finally updates the site. You check how far Profit has come in the checking process.

  1. Go to: Profit Windows.
  2. Go to: General / In & OutSite / Site.

After a change has been made to the site, it usually has to be updated as you can see in the Publication status column. During the update, pages are published again and then copied to the web server. You see this in the two columns on the right that indicate the files to be published and updated. The site is completely live if it has the Published in full status and all files have been published and updated.
