Audit file
You can use an audit file to supply information to the Tax Authority in order to check your accounting. An audit file is a file with administrative information in a file format specified by the Tax Authority. The generation and sending of an audit file is faster and more efficient than preparing the data manually.
The audit file only contains entries. The opening balance is not included and as a consequence it is still possible to look at the previous year.
The audit file Profit creates is based on the Dutch legislation. That is why it is not possible to create an audit file with an extension other than .XFC or .ADC.

Description
The use of the audit file has not been made mandatory by the tax authority, but is strongly encouraged. The audit file simplifies the check of your accounting by the Tax Authority and has the following advantages:
- Saves time
During an audit you will have to spend less time explaining the configuration of your environment.
- Simplification
For an audit, you will not have to convert the data in your accounting to a format that can be read by the Tax Authority.
The entries in your accounting constitute the basis of the audit file. In Profit, the audit file is compressed during the processing. For this, software made available by the tax authority is used, meaning the file will meet the requirements. You can also deliver an audit file to your accountant, for example for checking and reporting purposes, even if the accountant does not work with Profit.
More information on the use of the audit file can be found on the following website: softwarepakketten.nl (below the topic 'Thema's' (Themes), select 'Auditfile').
Generating an audit file refers to the administration you are working in. If an audit file must be created for each administration, you must do this separately for each administration.
While generating the audit file, Profit creates a number of files:
- Uncompressed
An ‘uncompressed audit file' is a file with the extension *.adf (for an audit file in ASCII format) or*.xaf (for an audit file in XML format). You do not send this file to the Tax Authority, but you can view it using the special viewer that is provided by the Tax Authority.
- Compressed
A ‘compressed audit file' consists of one or more files with the extension *.adc (for an audit file in ASCII format) or*.xfc (for an audit file in XML format). The number of files depends on the quantity of the data that have to be processed in the audit file. If the audit file does not fit on one data carrier, Profit automatically splits the audit file into multiple files. You can copy the file(s) and submit it in accordance with the tax authority’s instructions.
Note:
Be sure to save a copy of the audit file. You can use this copy if your data carrier gets lost or turns out to be unreadable.
When you create an audit file, you have to enter a financial year. You can only create an audit file for a full financial year. This means that if an administration starts after 1/1/2015, an audit file cannot be created for the year 2015.
