New version of a downloadable file

It occurs that a page with a reference to a downloadable XLS file does not get updated. From InSite, only the old file can be opened while the source file has been changed. You can resolve this by updating the XLS file.

The cause of this problem: if you specify an XLS file as a hyperlink, Profit saves a copy of the XLS file. This copy can be opened via a hyperlink while the original file is in another file location.

Solution:

  1. Add the file as an external link and not as a downloadable file.

The external link can also be outside of the InSite domain.

  2. Make sure that the file is refreshed at the location you indicate as an external link.

It is important here that the path to the refreshed file is accessible to other users and that it can be retrieved using the specified URL. Depending on the situation, this may mean you must adjust some things in the network infrastructure. The easiest way is to publish the file somewhere in the Virtual Directory of InSite.
