Configure Messagebird for text messaging

The two-factor authentication for AFAS Online by using text messaging will end on 1 January 2022. We announced this during the AFAS Open of Profit 18.

If you are still using text messages to log in, we recommend switching to two-factor authentication through AFAS Pocket or to single sign-on. You will find more information about this in the topic Logging in through text messaging will stop as of 1-1-2022.

If you still want to continue with logging in by receiving text messages, you can do so by configuring the link to Messagebird. This is at your own expense and risk.

After configuring Messagebird, users can log in through text messaging under the following conditions:

  • Messagebird is configured at the participant number where the user logs in.
  • The user's email address is defined at one participant number. If the email address is defined for several participant numbers, the text messaging option is not available. The user will then log in, for example, through AFAS Pocket.

Costs:

If you start using this solution, you will pay Messagebird € 0.056 per text message in the Netherlands (September 2021 price level). The current pricing is stated in the contract you enter into with Messagebird.

The following applies in relation to charging the costs: Only the costs of logging in are for your own organisation, the other costs will be borne by AFAS (registering a new user, reconfiguring AFAS Pocket, resetting the authentication app and adding a new phone and new phone number).

Entering into a contract:

To enter into a contract, contact Messagebird by using the email address: afas@messagebird.com.

After entering into the contract, an account with Messagebird will be created for you.

Foreign telephone numbers:

foreign telephone numbers (e.g. American, Canadian and Indian). Some countries have rules that you must comply with if you want to send an unsolicited text message to a number in that country (e.g. Canada, the United States and India). For the United States, for example, you need to give permission in your Messagebird account to send text messages to American numbers.

See, for example, this Messagebird page. Contact Messagebird with any questions but not AFAS.
