Relationships

Organisations and persons often are not independent entities, but are related to each other in a number of ways. You record these relationships in Profit. This refers to parent companies and subsidiaries, partners, etc.

Relationships give you the option to enhance Profit with data about your customers, prospects and leads. You can use this information in a later stage to select your target group.

Description

A relationship defines the relation between two organisations, an organisation and a person or a person and a person. The below image shows the Parent company relationship type. For Organisation A, the relationship 'is parent company of Organisation B' is shown, while for Organisation B the 'has Organisation A as parent company' relationship appears.

Automatic relationships

Profit adds relationships between organisations itself based on the Is part of field. If you use this field (in the New Wizard or in the organisation properties) to indicate that an organisation is a part of another organisation, Profit automatically records a relationship with the Has as part and Is part of descriptions. Relationships can be one-on-n relationships, for example in the case of one organisation that has multiple subsidiaries.

Relationship type

The nature of the relationship is indicated by the relationship type: in the example above, this is Has parent company/ Is parent company of. Profit provides default relationship types such as:

  • Accountant (is accountant of / has as accountant)
  • Holding (is parent company of / has as parent company)
  • Supervisory board (is supervising director of / has as supervising director)

In addition, the automatic Is part of relationship type is available.

You can add relationship types yourself, ensuring they are adjusted to your business activities. You can also add custom fields to relationship types. You can use these to register additional data about the relationship and display them on a separate tab.

Receives other sales reports from

For the preferred contact (see sales contact properties) a relationship has been added. The preferred contact receives all reports unless a recipient has been specified on the Digital tab.

Within the context of supplying by e-mail or in print, Profit also automatically records which contact person of an organisation receives which report type. For example, for Accountant Jansen the contact person is the Ontvanger van verkooporder. You can view these relationships both from the organisation and in the Relationships view.

You do not need to define relationships between organisations and their contacts, because you add a contact from the organisation's properties.
