Publish InSite or OutSite in another language

You can add a site in a language different from the basic language of an environment, provided the extra language in question is included in the licence. By default, a site is displayed in the basic language of the licence. If the licence includes extra languages, you can select a different language when adding a site. You can also convert a published site to a different language. Default parts of the site are translated automatically, for other parts you can add your own translations.

Example:

The basic language of the environment is Dutch and your licence includes French as an extra language.

By default, the InSite and/or OutSite sites are shown in Dutch. You can add French sites. The default parts are translated into French automatically; you have to translate the other parts yourself.

You can also convert a Dutch site to a French site. The default parts are translated into French automatically; you have to translate the other parts yourself.

You can only translate the interface of the site, not the data. Certain parts may have been translated in both Profit Windows and InSite based on the basic language of the environment.

Description

You can publish a site in one language. If you want to publish a site in two languages, you must use two separate sites. These sites get different URLs. Because of this setup, differences between the sites may arise. This is a conscious choice, made because the requirements may vary per language, country or user group. In Profit Windows (the back office), you also have two different sites. This means you can perform maintenance, activate pages, set a site to 'under construction', etc separately for each site.

Translate parts

Default parts are translated automatically, as you can see in the following example:

You will have to translate other parts, such as page titles, in Site Management yourself. You cannot translate the below items using Site Management:

• Documents

  For each language, you must add the required documents. It is recommended to use separate document templates for each language and to activate the appropriate document templates in the properties of each site.

• Alerts

  You record the translation of an alert in the properties of the alert. Alerts are always shown in the language of the site, not in the preferred language of the logged on user.

• Input forms

  For each language, you must add the required input forms.

Untranslated parts

• URLs

  Page names in URLs are not translated. For example, if you add the 'Debtors' overview page on an English InSite site, the following URL could be created: 'insite.enyoi.nl/debiteuren-prs/debtors'.

• Workflows

  Supplied workflows are translated automatically, but not your own workflows. If necessary, you must add extra workflows yourself, recording the descriptions in the correct language in the workflow editor.

  An alternative could be to use only Dutch workflows, but to include text blocks with explanations in another language on the pages in question. For these text blocks you specify a language restriction so they are only displayed on the site in the corresponding language.

• Dossier item type

  Supplied types are translated automatically, but not other types.

• Automatically composed banners

  Banners can be composed automatically based on a context (page or crumb trail) or based on the menu. These pages only contain parts that have no language linked to them and parts that are in the same language as the site language.

Example:

You have a site with the 'Documents' menu option. This menu option has the following sub-menu items:

• Veiligheid (Nederlands), linked to the Dutch language.
• Safety (English), linked to the English language.
• EHBO (Nederlands), linked to the Dutch language.
• First Aid (Engels), linked to the English language.

The page linked to the 'Documents' menu option has a banner. This banner is composed automatically based on the menu. The banner on the Dutch site only contains the Veiligheid (Nederlands) and EHBO (Nederlands) choices. The banner on the English site only contains the Safety (Engels) and First Aid (Engels) choices.

  The organisation can have multiple InSite sites in different languages. Users can receive e-mail messages containing hyperlinks that refer to a specific site (for example, for workflows). Each user can specify the site to which the hyperlinks must refer.
