When running a scheduled task (AFASCMD PUBLISH) in Windows Server 2008, the task freezes.
When running a Scheduled Task (AFASCMD PUBLISH) in Windows 2008, the task ‘freezes’.
It does work manually (by double-clicking on the batch file).
Sometimes the following message appears: Cannot get access to the file C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\AfasAnalysis\analysis-name.xlsb
Cause:
Running Excel 'unattended' on the Windows Server 2008 is no longer supported by Microsoft (this is considered an incorrect use of Excel). You can only use the 'Publish' action if the AFASCMD user who starts the task, is also logged on to Windows. This means a service account cannot be used.
If the user is logged on to the system, and the message keeps appearing, the following solution can be applied:
- Create the following folder on a Windows 2008 64 bits server: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
- Create the following folder on a Windows 2008 32 bits server: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop
Source:social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums (Consult this source if this solution doesn’t work for you).
- The user that starts the scheduled task must have modify rights for the folder and for the underlying folders and objects.
For Windows 2008 (R2) servers:
- Run the scheduled task as a ‘Windows 7 / 2008 (R2)' task.
- Select the ‘Run with highest privileges' check box.
Workaround:
Log on as the user the command line is scheduled for, and then lock the server. (Windows key + L)
When starting up an entry function, the following message appears: Entry program cannot be started.
This message appears when opening an entry functionality, because the entry layout is not available for certain reasons. To resolve the error message, check the following:
- Validity of entry layout
Check the validity of the entry layout.
- Unblock the entry layout
And unblock a blocked entry layout.
- User rights
Check the user rights to the entry layout:
Note:
If you do not have rights to maintain or select entry layouts, your application administrator can offer you support.
After creating a custom field, can I still change/modify the length?
No, that is not possible. As soon as you have added the custom field and specified a length, you cannot change it anymore.
For a new field length, you need to add the field again, only this time with the correct field length.

Can I set up Profit in high contrast for the visually impaired?
By default, Profit does not adjust fully to the Windows settings for High contrast. However, you can copy the colour settings to Profit. This will cause the Profit colour settings to change, for example as follows:
- By default, an unchangeable field has the same colour as the screen.
- A required field is not given a different colour, because Windows does not have a background colour for required fields.
Why can Profit not display any Turkish or East European characters (non-Cyrillic) based on ANSI or UNICODE using the ALT codes?
Profit only supports the ASCII character set. (No ‘diacritic characters').

The following message appears: Can't create AutoRedraw image.
This message appears as a result of an incorrect Windows infrastructure. The following situations may occur:
- Generate analysis
If this message only appears when generating an analysis, you need to check if the analysis was created with Office 2007 and was saved as a binary 2007 format. If this is the case, change it to resolve the issue.
- Random actions in Profit
Restart Profit to resolve the error message. For a structural solution, check the following points.
GDI objects
When launching a function or opening a view in Profit, images and data are loaded. These are loaded as GDI objects in Windows. Depending on the way you start or close a function, these GDI objects will increase or decrease. The error message appears in Profit because the maximum level of 10,000 has been exceeded. This is the maximum level of multiple programs added together. You can check the number of GDI objects in Task Manager. Your system administrator can assist you with this.
Example:
If you open an employee’s properties in Profit, a view is loaded on each tab, and consequently also GDI objects. By navigating through the different tabs, the number of loaded GDI objects increases.
When you close the employee’s properties, you also at the same time close all the GDI objects that were open for that employee.
You can solve this structurally by doing the following:

Why is the OK, Finish or Next button deactivated or why can’t I click on them?
If you have not completed a required field, you cannot click on OK (or Next or Finish). This can happen in a properties window or in a wizard.
Find and complete the required value(s):
- Browse the tabs or the wizard windows and find the required field.
- Enter the correct value in this field.
You are then able to click on OK (or Next or Finish).
Why are e-mails not sent from Profit??
Why aren’t all the invoice reports displayed in the sales contact profile on the invoices tab?
The type of report that is missing, is incorrect. When you add a report, you need to select the correct report type so you can select the report in the sales contact profile. You can choose from:
- Subscription invoice
- Course invoice
- Project invoice
- Instalment invoice
- Sales invoice
For existing reports you cannot change this type afterwards.
More information:
Why can’t I send any credit invoices or invoices by e-mail using the Output wizard? The issue method is not set to “Do not issue”.
If you cannot send (credit) invoices by e-mail, then this may be for one of 2 reasons:
Why can I not log on to an environment? I get the message “You do not have access to 'Profit Windows' in Environment <name>.".
Many users are used to logging on to the environment last opened. This option does not work if this environment has been deleted.
Application administrators can run the following checks:
- Has the user been added to the environment?
- Do you use Windows authentication or Profit authentication? The following applies to Windows authentication: You use Windows user names in Profit. You don't records passwords in Profit. Once a user is logged on to Windows, he hass access to Profit without supplying a password.
- If you are using a local installation (so not AFAS Online) you can run a user synchronisation. In the wizard, use the option Allow access to users who only occur within the environment.
When restoring a backup file or exchange file (UTW), the following message appears: ‘SQL DMO is not installed. To perform this action you must install the SQL Server client tools’.
In English, the text of the message is: SQL DMO not installed. To be able to execute this function the SQL Server client tools must be installed.
You can prevent this message from appearing by downloading the file 'SQLServer2005_BC.msi' (32-bit or 64-bit version) from the AFAS Customer portal (under 'Aanvullende bestanden'). Install 'SQLServer2005_BC.msi' on the Profit application server.

Solution:
- Open the following folder in Windows Explorer:
..\Profit\AFAS Data\Config
- Open the 'DAppSets.txt' file.
- Delete the value next to:
[VersionReg] =
- Save the file.
If you log on as the administrator, the message should not appear.
When you perform an import, the message ‘Permission denied’ appears
This message appears if the log file cannot be written.
Solution:
I get the message The group *** is based on a selection of users
When I add a user, the following message appears: The group *** is based on a selection of users.
You can ensure that Profit automatically populates authorisation groups based on organisational units (departments) from the organisation chart. In other words: if a user/employee belongs to a certain organisational unit, he is automatically a member of an authorisation group (or several authorisation groups).
