Add a unit with a calculation

For a unit, you can specify that the surface area or volume is calculated when you add the article to the order. The following two calculation methods are available:

  • Two factors (surface)

Use this option for a calculation with two factors (length and width). In the article, you enter the preferred length and width. On the order line, you enter the quantity and, if applicable, a custom length and width Profit then uses to calculate the surface area.

  • Three factors (content)

Use this option for a calculation with three factors (length, width and height). In the article, you enter the preferred values; on the order line you enter the quantity Profit should use to calculate the volume. In case of this method, too, you can still change the values for length, width and height on the order line.

To add a unit with a calculation:

  1. Go to: Order Management / Item / Configuration / Unit.
  2. Click on: New

  3. In Unit, enter the code, for example LxW for ‘Length x Width’.
  4. Enter a detailed Description.
  5. In Type unit, select Two factors (surface) or Three factors (content) as the calculation to be performed on the unit.
  6. Click on: Finish

To set a unit with a calculation as the basic unit for an article:

  1. Go to: Order Management / Item / Article.
  2. Open the properties of the article..
  3. Go to the tab: Units per item.
  4. Click on the action:Change basic unit.
  5. Select the New basic unit, in our example Lengte x Breedte.
  6. Click on: OK.
  7. Click on: Finish
  8. Go to the tab: General of the article properties.
  9. Enter 2 in the Number of decimals field if the field does not yet have that value. This sets the precision of the Length and Width fields (that you will add to the entry layout later on). If you set the precision to 2, you can specify the Length and Width in hundredths.
  10. Click on: OK

To set the preferred length and width:

  1. Open the properties of the article. again.
  2. Go to the tab: Units per item.
  3. Open the properties of the new basic unit. In our example this is LxB.
  4. Go to the tab: Graduated order scale to set the preferred dimensions.
  5. Enter the dimensions in the Preferred length and Preferred width fields (and the Preferred height field if this is a unit with a calculation of the volume). The dimensions are expressed in metres (1.00 is 1 metre).
  6. Click on OK twice.
  7. Change the sales price of the article, for example using the Price/discount action.

Change the entry layout:

  1. Go to: General / Management / Entry layout.
  2. Select the entry layout. for sales.
  3. Add the Length, Width and Height fields to the entry layout (from the Line fields), for example to the sales order entry layout.
  4. Enter the article in the sales order and complete the Length and Width fields you just added. The surface area from the added line is deducted from the stock.
